Post NYC Realization

As I sit in the airport reflecting on the weekend I’m realizing how grateful I am that the universe is a giant random place. Without chance nothing that happened to me would have been possible. It also gives me a chance to contemplate multiple conversations with really fantastic people about the things I’m most passionate about it and maybe, just maybe, it’s given me the spark I needed to take some more chances and get to a place that would be a dream come true.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others of the Day: Hint: It’s the one with the cover story about how it’s completely okay, if not beneficial, to feel unease about future uncertainties, as opposed to, say, riot in the streets until sh*t gets done.
Sadly, this is a fairly common occurrence.

Kickass Quilt of the Day: Jennifer Ofenstein spent nearly two years putting together this rather elaborate paper-pieced Harry Potter quilt, and is now sharing the patterns on her site — one block at a time.
She writes:

This quilt is more [than] just a million bits of fabric stitched together.  It represents all the years I’ve loved Harry Potter and some of my favorite things about the series.  It has brought me friends, and fans, and brought more quilters that I can count into the wonderful world of paper piecing.

[craft.]

I’m learning to quilt, now.

Museum Art of the Day: MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” — the first major US museum exhibition dedicated to street art — opens to the public this Sunday, and will remain open through August 8.
Among the familiar pieces stretching all the way back to the dawn of graffiti-based vandalism are new and original pieces from the likes of Os Gemeos and Banksy (above).
My Modern Met took some photos during yesterday’s press opening which you can see here.
[mmm.]

This is gorgeous.

Breaking Soap Opera News of the Day: ABC today dealt a harsh blow to soap opera lovers still reeling from the loss of Guiding Light and As The World Turns, announcing the cancellation of two additional long-running genre icons — One Life to Live and All My Children.
“Each of the shows has touched millions and millions of viewers and informed the social consciousness,” said ABC’s President of Daytime Programming Brian Frons in a prepared statement. “It has been a privilege to work with the extraordinary teams who brought the residents of Pine Valley and Llanview to life each day, and we thank the cast, crew, producers and most especially the fans for their commitment to the shows through their history.”
One Life to Live debuted on ABC in 1968; All My Children in 1970. Both are slated to be replaced by talk shows with the hopes of capitalizing on the success of The View.

I can’t even begin to tell you how sad this makes me. I grew up with these programs, I watch them all the time. I just can’t even discuss this right now.

Adorable Newborn Animal of the Day: The Cincinnati Zoo — notable for being the first zoo in the Western Hemisphere to have a giraffe born in captivity — welcomed into the world the first giraffe born on its grounds in 26 years.
Its first public appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, when the calf’s sex will be announced. A naming contest is expected to follow.

Awwwww, mommy and daddy love the baby. This just warms my cold, cold heart.
